Buying, using & storing

Can you freeze baby food pouches?

Yes our pouches are suitable for freezing; we would suggest the puree is decanted into a freezer safe container or ice cube tray and used within a month.

Why don’t your foods need to be stored in the fridge before opening?

Part of our Promise is that we do not add colourings*, flavourings and preservatives * to any of our foods. It is our cooking processes and the packaging we use that keeps our unopened foods fresh without needing to pop them in the fridge.

How do I store your jars?

We recommend storing our unopened jars in a cool dry place (for example in a pantry). You can keep the reclosed jar in a refrigerator for a day.

How do I store your pouches?

We recommend storing our unopened pouches in a cool dry place (for example in a pantry). If the content of a pouch is squeezed onto a separate spoon before feeding your child, you can keep the reclosed pouch in a refrigerator for a day. If your child consumes the product directly from the pouch then we recommend to discard any leftovers.

Where can I buy Organix products?

Our foods can be found in bigger Migros Stores all over Switzerland. Typically the larger the shop, the more of our range you will find. You can also find Organix online at shop.migros.ch and brack.ch

I have bought out of date food, what should I do?

It is the responsibility of the retailer to ensure that they are selling in-date stock, we are sorry if this has not been the case for you and would recommend that you return the item to store where you purchased it. We give a best before date on all our foods because we know that the food is at its best quality up to this time. We would however like to know more about your experience in case there is anything we can do to improve. Please get in touch.

What's in our food

Why do you use palm oil in your biscuits?

We use palm oil, usually mixed with another vegetable oil, to get the best possible texture and quality. Our Promise means we never use hydrogenated or trans-fats in our recipes. All of our ingredients go through thorough investigations before we use them. This means testing the integrity, traceability and reliability of supply of all our organic ingredients, as well as investigating any ethical or safety concerns. Our palm oil growers and suppliers are certified members of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), the world’s leading organisation working to sustainable and ethical values in palm oil production. Although we’re confident in our choice of supply we understand the concerns that are raised and we will continue to ensure all precautions are taken with our foods and raw materials to provide the utmost reassurance.

Is your palm oil sustainably sourced?

Our palm oil growers and suppliers are certified members of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), the world’s leading organisation working to sustainable and ethical values in palm oil production. Requirements include commitments to country laws, environmental responsibility, welfare of workers and new crop planting.

The growers we source from are located in Colombia and Brazil and are committed to sustainable palm oil. We don’t source palm oil from regions that are home to orang-utans, so we can be confident that we aren’t contributing to the loss of their habitat.

We are also members of RSPO which ensures our whole supply chain from start to finish is certified.

Although we’re confident in our choice of supply we understand the concerns that are raised and we will continue to ensure all precautions are taken with our foods and raw materials to provide the utmost reassurance.

Why do your Puffs stain?

As we use organic carrot powder to season our snacks, the natural orange pigment which is present in carrots can cause staining. We recommend washing and soaking any stubborn stains overnight.

Why do you add thiamin (vitamin B1)?

We add thiamin (vitamin B1) to our rice cakes, biscuits and some of our snacks. This is required by law for any weaning foods that are cereal based.

Do you use any GM ingredients in your foods?

None of the ingredients we use to make our foods contain Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO), as these are not permitted under organic standards.

Why don’t you add other vitamins or minerals to your foods?

We don’t fortify any of our foods with vitamins or minerals. This is because fortifying foods isn’t permitted under organic standards unless it’s required by an overriding law (for example, the law about thiamin). We believe that feeding babies a variety of foods is the best way to get the various nutrients they need.

Age & Stage

Why are foods labelled 6 months+?

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends babies are exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months of life, and continue to receive breastmilk throughout the first year and for as long after that as mum and baby want to continue. At Organix, we support this.

Breastmilk will provide enough energy and nutrients for growing and developing babies until they reach six months of age. Babies are rarely developmentally ready for solid food before about six months of age.

At around six months of age, your baby will need nutrients not available in adequate amounts in their milk alone, so at this time it is important they are introduced to solid food that is nutritionally adequate and safe while breastfeeding continues.

The important thing to remember is that if your baby is ready for solid food all three of the signs below will be there. Your baby is ready if they can:

1. Co-ordinate their eyes, hands and mouth, can look at food, grab it and put it in their mouth all by themselves.

2. Stay in a sitting position and can hold their head steady.

3. Swallow their food. Small babies instinctively use their tongues to push foreign objects out of their mouths, and until this reflex fades, they are likely to do the same thing to a spoon or a piece of banana.

Why are some of your foods not suitable for children under 12 months?

Our foods labelled 12 month+ are not suitable for little ones under 12 months as the foods could pose a choking risk. When feeding them to your 12 month+ child please make sure they are sitting down and supervised to reduce the risk of choking.

Our packaging

Is your packaging BPA free?

We use a number of different types of packaging and can confirm that all are BPA Free.

Is your packaging recyclable?

All carton board that we use is fully recyclable. We would love for all our packaging to be fully recyclable, but unfortunately we do have some challenges, in particular with flexible film, which we use for our puffs among other foods, that enables us to meet our strict food safety and quality standards and ensure our food stays safe to eat. We care a lot about protecting our natural environment and are always looking for ways to improve what we do. We're currently working with packaging experts and running trials with potential suppliers of biodegradable film and have set a target to make all of our packaging fully sustainable by 2023.
